Morning has broken…

•December 15, 2009 • 1 Comment

I’m quite tired. Physically tired. I stayed up until 2AM this morning studying and reviewing for my two finals today, and it’s mere minutes until my first one. I’m quite nervous to see how this goes.

- – - – -

I wonder how it feels to stay up on nothing but caffeine. I have several friends that have done so, and I think it’s proposterous! I, for one, believe in a “you need your sleep so get it” system, where you get some sleep instead of none. Some may say that it’s ineffective, but  you take a 2-hour nap before a test and see how you feel. (I’ve never done it, but surely it works)

- – - – -

And now, I’m off to take my first final of the day! Wish me luck!

[Final]ly!

Alas, it is the eve before finals and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, because everyone was studying, including the mouse. (Ha!)

I’ve put together my portfolio for my Feature Writing class, and it looks really nice. It’s good to see your works in a nice, clean bundle. Perhaps I should gift wrap and bow it as well! :P

I also have my East Asian History exam tomorrow at 12:00pm and I’m quite nervous, for it’s a lot of information to remember, but I know that somehow, God will put something magical from his sleeves. I just need to do my part of the act!

- – - – -

When it comes to writing, one puts a little bit of their soul into every word, sentence, paragraph, and work. It doesn’t matter how minute or grand you work my be, there’s a bit that lets the reader know that you, [insert your name here], wrote this piece, and is darn tootin’ proud of it!

- – - – -

I can’t believe that this semester of class has gone by oh so fast! I never knew that this semester would show me how much stress I can, and can’t, handle. Then again, I’m sure I could have handled it, were it not for my time-wasting activities. I won’t mention any specifics, but yes, they were quite time consuming.

- – - – -

And now, I go to sleep, in hopes of waking early tomorrow to study more. Adieu, adieu, adieu.

I don’t think it hurts at all.

[Yay for saving drafts instead of publishing them!]

The weekend is here! And you know what that means!

No, seriously, you know what that means. Or do you?

I took the liberty of taking a nice break from school and anything associated with it on Saturday and just relaxed in… my room. I grabbed my copy of The Screwtape Letters, a cup of tea, and my pillow, which was conveniently placed on my bed. I then began to read.

And before you know it, it was sundown and I began once again to study for my finals. Back to the hustle and bustle.

It’s now Sunday and thankfully I don’t have any finals on Monday, so that gives me more time to study and anything in between. I know that God’s blessed me so far, and a little more would hurt. Then again, I don’t think it hurts at all.

Which reminds me….

Why do we have our quirky phrases that we use? The bee’s knees? The cat’s pajamas? The cat’s meow? Why do we make such blah that causes us to guffaw? It puzzles my mind. (And there’s another one. How does one exactly puzzle their mind? In pieces!?! Egad!)

Getting Ready!

Finals are upon us! Egad! Someone call the mayor! :P

Yes, finals are here, and I think that it will be quite a challenge. The everyday hustle and bustle of the thing known as college life seems to bog me down, but with the holiday break, that is quite something to look forward to.

I am currently eating vanilla wafers. They are quite tasty! And now I feel some inspiration welling up within me! I FEEL POWER! (jk…. I’m quite fine. They taste great.)

- – - -

I shall be reading Genevieve now, to quell my thirst for absorption into the Warhammer world. Have a great weekend, everyone! :]

Finally!

After long awaited…. waiting… (haha!) I finally got word that my article is going to be used! God will make a way, and he did! Awesome possum!

In other news, another cold front came in earlier this evening. I’m enjoying the cold temperatures, as it’s a nice change from the usual heat and humidity that makes Texas. Here’s a pic of the front coming in!:

Amazing how mother nature can bedazzle the ordinary!

- – - – -

I have a final tomorrow, and I think I’m ready. I’ll be getting up a little earlier to make sure I know my left from my right.

- – - – -

And now, I bid thee farewell, but before I go, a poem from Emily Dickinson, who always steals a smile from me:

A Day! Help! Help! Another Day! - By E.D.

A Day! Help! Help! Another Day!
Your prayers, oh Passer by!
From such a common ball as this
Might date a Victory!
From marshallings as simple
The flags of nations swang.
Steady -- my soul: What issues
Upon thine arrow hang!

Too much!

This is getting ridiculous. Too much to do in so little time!

Where does all the time go? I thought I got a lot finished this weekend, but alas, it seems that it added up to nothing.

I’ve been studying for exams, and although it seems that there’s time left over, there doesn’t seem to be any left at all. What’s going on!?! Eep!

Lord, give me the strength to go on! (-_-)

But then again, the Lord doesn’t give us more than we can handle, so out of this chaos, things will get done. And if not, there’s always another way.

As the song that I sang in University Singers a couple of years goes: “God will make a way, where there seems to be no way.”

And now, for your enjoyment, a poem I wrote:

The Mistake - by Aldrin Muya
As I’m walking down the street,
I see a homeless man holding a cup,
I tossed in a few coins for him,
And he said, “You just put change in my 7-Up.”

- – - – -

And a picture that I took awhile ago:

It’s amazing to capture nature’s fury. Then again, it wasn’t so furious at all.

Pictures!

Here are a number of pictures I’ve taken around the lovely Johnson County in Texas.

I must say, it’s amazing to capture the smallest beauty in the most simple of things.

All you need is a camera, a good eye, and good timing. Or so they say….

I’m still waiting. And watching. And no progress. Ep!!!!! :[

Adieu, adieu, adieu.

A Scrap of Creative Writing

•December 1, 2009 • 2 Comments

Here is a little diddy that I wrote in my Feature Writing class that I thought would be pleasing to your eyes and mental assimilation. Enjoy.

- – - – -

I awoke to my body being rigid. Contorted, difficult to move, my breath leaving my body. As the blood rushed to my head, draining from my hands and feet, I could feel death staring at me with glaring eyes, drilling through my throbbing, ashpyxiated soon-to-be corpse.

I tried to wiggle on arm, but every time I moved, death’s grip seemed to get tighter and tighter, like a chinese finger trap. It was a lost cause to struggle. This was it. I’m a goner, I thought to myself.

Suddenly, just as it came, it was all gone. The reigns of death let go, and soon, I could feel the tingle of bloodflow in my hands and feet return; I could feel the life flowing back through me now. As my vision started to unblur and my senses regained, I caught a glimpse of death. And I was quite surprised.

Harvey, my pet boa constrictor, just wanted to say good morning.

(note: this is not a boa constrictor)

Adieu, adieu, adieu.

Thankful

•November 30, 2009 • 2 Comments

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and though that was just one occasion to express my thanks, I think it’s appropriate that we always try to be thankful throughout the whole year. And so, to continue the perpetuation of the spirit of thanks, I’d like to briefly list some things that I’m thankful for.

Some Things That I’m Thankful For

1. College

These number of years of college have not been easy, but they’ve tested me, year by year. The challenges that come and go with each semester only serve to strengthen me as a person. Sometimes I think I can’t handle the situations that come my way, but then I recall that God doesn’t give me anything I can’t handle. I just hope that I handle them well.

2. My Truck

Yes, I’m thankful for a non-living object. The truck has taken me to places I thought I would never go. From concerts to late-night runs across campus and everywhere in between, I’m quite thankful for transportation to keep me active in my pursuit of adventure.

3. Emily Dickinson

Her poetic licks never cease to amaze me. I can say that she’s been the inspiration for my drive to create some of my poetic creations. Here’s one of her poems that I totally dig:

The Soul Selects Her Own Society by Emily Dickinson

THE SOUL selects her own society,
Then shuts the door;
On her divine majority
Obtrude no more.

Unmoved, she notes the chariot’s pausing 5
At her low gate;
Unmoved, an emperor is kneeling
Upon her mat.

I ’ve known her from an ample nation
Choose one; 10
Then close the valves of her attention
Like stone.

Yes, Emily, you’ve got your poetic hold on me. :P

Yes, that was a very brief testament for what I’m thankful for, but I hope to continue this trend, because there’s a lot to be thankful for. What are you thankful for?

What are you thankful for?

A poem for the plebs:

Woken by the brightness,
Of the sun that seared the day,
The lighting wasn’t so very bright,
But it woke me right away.

The air is stale inside my room,
But the leaves outside tell a different story,
Is it good to be nice inside,
To not be tossed and turned by the outside’s tempest fury?

Perhaps today I’ll enjoy the sun,
Outside from the room which I dwell,
For sunshine warms the soul,
Which is quite so very swell.

I’ve got lots to do. This Thanksgiving break was a break, but not entirely. I hope to get more things done.

Sabbath rest. It’s quite peaceful. My dog is snoring right now.

I think I’ll go to bed. Night, ya’ll.
